Multicade or original arcade?

Postby mikey on Sat Nov 27, 2010 1:53 am

Hi All,

I want to build a small arcade room in our house and Im thinking about buying each original arcade game I like (Pacman, Galaga, etc) but I see that you can buy 1 arcade game with 60 games on there including the main ones I like.

It sure would save space but Im wondering if these are the full games just like the originals. Same exact games or a bit different as far as how long they last, look, etc?

Thanks much for any input.

Yup, they are full games, except they are emulated (which means that they might differ slightly from the original). Mostly, the 60-in-1 pcbs feature the original games so you shouldn't worry too much about it. :)

The 60 in 1 Atari Jamma board does have full games however there is some sound issues with a couple of games (1942-1943 etc). So far I have not seen or heard a correction for this.

The reason these suck is that they're basically PC-based emulated MAME roms, only with a Jamma interface, running on an extremely weak PC with an extremely old version of MAME. You're much better off using an old PC with latest MAME installed. At least then you have the option to install whatever games you like and they will run much better.

Also, the reason the sound is bad on some of the games is because all games are forced to sync to 60hz. Most games did not run at exactly 60hz, which is why it will cause skipping/stuttering or pitch shifts.
