Monitor on MK I

Postby Viceroy M on Sat Dec 04, 2010 10:55 pm

Hi everyone,

Total noob here. :ugeek: I have an original MK I machine, and I have a couple of questions:

1) The monitor shuts off after anywhere from 3 minutes to 15 minutes of playtime. I turn on the toggle switch on the top of the machine (the machine is always plugged in), and it boots up just fine, and I can play for a little bit, but after anywhere from 3 to 15 mins, it always turns off. Any ideas?

2) Does anyone know how to upgrade to the newer version (so I can play against reptile if I get 2x flawless victories on the bridge)?

Thanks a lot ;) ,

B

Get a cap kit for it. Google "your monitor brand" + capkit. :)

Usually you will find a sticker or an imprint with a model no# or serial no#. Try googling the model/serial no# and you should get an idea.

Cool, thanks again Dekar. Although, I'm a little apprehensive about messing with the monitor, considering it could be holding 1000's of Volts. (Did some research on replacing caps ;) ) I think I'll get a certified electrician to do it or something. Anyway, thanks for all the help!! Now I know what's wrong with it at least. I really appreciate it.

Indeed, be careful when messing with those ancient CRT monitors. :) If you check Youtube you will find some nice vids of how to discharge it. Be careful though, you don't want to electrocute yourself.
