Talk about arcade emulation software and other arcade-related software. E.g. MAME, front-ends, controller interface software, LED/light controller software etc.

MAME driving me nuts, please help

Postby englischdude on Sun Oct 24, 2010 9:36 am

Hi all,

hopefully someone here can help. Here I have an IMAC and an ASUS laptop which is running Linux Mint 9. WHen I isntall the MAME emulator on the mac everything works puuuurfectly, however I have copied the same ROMS over to the LINUX laptop and I cant get it to work. Through the packet manager I can install MAME without problems, however when I try to start a game it tells me that there are a nuber of ROMS missing!

Please, any suggestions?

Thanks

It's probably because you're running a different version of MAME on your laptop than on your iMac. Most MAME roms work only with a particular version of MAME.

E.g. if you have a romset for MAME .132 then you need to use MAME v.132 in order to play those roms. Some roms will work on any MAME version, but most of them will only give you problems.

So you have two options;

1. Find out which MAME version you're using on the Linux laptop and use ClrMamePro to convert your romset so it's compatible with that particular MAME version.

.. or ..

2. Find out which MAME version your romset is for and use that particular version of MAME on your Linux laptop. You can use ClrMamePro for this as well.

You can download ClrMamePro here:

English tutorial for ClrMamePro here:

Good luck! ;)
