Hi!

General discussion about anything related to arcade gaming that does not fit in any of the other categories.

Hi!

Hello everyone, I am completely new here (as you could have guessed) and I am looking to build my own arcade cabinet.

Now I have most of everything planned out.

I have a person with decades of wood-working experience to help me with building the cab :D , already have plans but haven't started construction yet.

I've picked out a monitor (only a trisync 19" until I can get a proper 27" :| ).

I have my controls planned out, as with a power supply (I will use a simple button instead of a coin box for my 'insert coin' button, I also have my harness picked out.

Now here's where I run into a brick wall, I'm planning to have multiple games in a single cab via this:

http://www.jammaboards.com/store/6-in-1-multijamma-switcher-pcb/prod_250.html

But, the games I want to put into it (MK, MK2, SF2, a 60-in-1 board, and a 2-slot Neo Geo MVS board) all have conflicting harnesses and/or require different button configs from what I want. (BTW, I am doing a -5 volt mod on the 6-in-1)

What I wanted my button config to be was a standard 6-button with a 7th in a similar place as the "run" button on a MK config (have to have 2 "block" buttons because of SF2 though) that would act as both a "run" button as well as the "A" button on my MVS.

 Now the only solution I have yet found is to spend hours splicing wires in the harnesses and through the jamma connector :( by using:

http://www.jammaboards.com/store/jamma-extender-harness/prod_247.html

If anyone has any better idea then please reply, or reply anyway just for advice and to say hello.

Hi Dant and welcome to AF!

It sounds like you've got everything set up for a great cabinet, but instead of a Jamma-cab, why don't you build a PC-based MAME-cab instead? That way you can have all the games you want and it won't cost you a sweat to have different controller mappings for each game.

Get a mediocre PC running the back-end of the system and get an iPac2 from ultimarc (or even easier, get a minipac if you don't feel like stripping, cutting and crimping the wires).

AFAIK the only way of achieving the different button mappings if you want to use Jamma-boards is to splice the connectors the way you're describing.

I understand that many people don't like emulating the games, as they claim it is not authentic, but if you're planning to get a 27" WG D9200/D9800 or similar arcade monitor in the future, then you won't know the difference imho. Plus, the fact that the system runs on a PC opens up for endless possibilities and you're not tied to only running Jamma games.

Either way, whatever decision you make, I hope you'll keep us updated with your progress here on the forum in the Projects and Restoration section.

Looking forward to following your progress! :)

Thx for the advice!

After you said that I have looked into a MAME cab and decided that it could be much better, perhaps later I could build a proper JAMMA cab.

Also, yes when I begin construction I will start a topic in the Projects and Restoration section.
